Bookmarking Snakes

If you wonder what kind of dish Bookmarking Snakes is, don´t. This is not a food related article, this is my poor excuse to apologise my recent lack of postings. I have been busy, and blah blah, but mainly, recently I have immersed myself into my old passion of bobbin laces.

I have always been pretty on and off with my handicrafts. I start knitting a sweater (that enthusiasm usually lasts a week or two), then I switch to crocheting a tablecloth, then embroidery, sewing... and I rarely finish any (what a public confession)...

But now that Christmas is approaching, I was thrown back into my old multi-handy-crafting habits. This time, though, I thought of utilising the little free time I have and thought of little simple projects that can be finished within hours, not months. And here is when I came up with these lovely sweet curvaceous cutties. Who wouldn't love them?

BOOKMARKS - SNAKES

Blue (9 pairs of bobbins)

  • 4 with black thread (1 1/2 of the snake size)
  • 2 with dark blue thread (1 1/2 of the snake size)
  • 2 with light blue thread (1 1/2 of the snake size)
  • 1 leading thread in dark blue thread (triple the snake size)
Purple (9 pair of bobbins)
  • 4 with red thread (1 1/2 of the snake size)
  • 2 with purple thread (1 1/2 of the snake size)
  • 2 with light pink thread (1 1/2 of the snake size)
  • 1 leading thread in purple thread (triple the snake size)
The patterns used:
Open fan, cloth stitch and "snake pattern".
Where the snake gets thicker, add a few thread twists. Where it thins, do only cloth stitches.

Start with 3 bobbins (2 black pairs and the leading blue), work towards the end and back (2 open fans patterns), then add another two black pairs, work towards the end and back, add the dark blue ones, repeat and in the 4th row, add the light blue and work all 8 pairs until the end of the snake pattern.

At the last three rows, end the threads regularly. Tie the remaining threads into a knot and spray with hairspray. Let dry out and enjoy :-)

These lovely snakes now available for sale on ETSY. Come and visit Zlamushka´s Handy Craft Shop.
