I am extremely pleased to see my Tried &Tasted event gaining so much success. It was not even 24 hours after I announced Blog Of The Month for T&T June, I already received the very first entry. And even after deadline approached, entries were still pouring in. It is my pleasure to present them all here:
Number of Participants: 51
Number of Recipes Tried: 53
Number of Entries: 74
Nupur, here is what we think of your One Hot Stove...
First the winners.....
1. Pav Bhaji - my absolute favorite street food. A spicy flavorful medley of veggies served on a toasted bun, a heaven on-the-go. Sireesha of Mom´s Recipes, Dee of Ammalu´s Kitchen, Kamala of Mom´s Recipes, Sia of Monsoon Spice, Laavanya of Cookery Corner , Shankari of Stream Of Consciousness, Bharti of Veggie Foodist, Priya of Akshayapaatram, and Medhaa of Cook With Love all five loved the taste, but let´s be honest - who doesn't?
2. Sabudana Khichdi - a simple Maharashtran dish widely enjoyed particularly during fasting seasons. TBC of The Budding Cook has re-created Nupur´s recipe numerous times and enjoyed experimenting with different additional ingredients. Here is one of them - with carrots. Laavanya of Cookery Corner presents hers - with onions, while Deepthi of Vegetable Platter, Meera of Enjoy Indian Food and Sia of Monsoon Spice stick to the original.
3. Pithale - in Nupur´s own words "...is a curry made entirely of chickpea flour (besan) which is cooked into a kind of savory custard..." Even though she warns readers to be careful with making it, as it is easily screwable, TBC of The Budding Cook, or Rashmi of Delhi Belle didn't seem to have any difficulties.
.... followed by the rest of the feast.
* Snacks And Appetizers *
4. Kati Roll - Nupur´s favorite re-creation of a famous Bombay food snack. Wholesome and light, who would ever resist? Uma of Essence of Andhra earned her success with her lovely family after making these yummy rolls for dinner.
5. Vadi Pav - a fantastic crispy and well-spiced potato fritters - a humble roadside snack of Mumbai. Eaten on a bun on a bed of a spicy chutney, that is how Cham of Spice-Club loved this one - a perfect lunch on-the-go.
6. Pani Puri - or "water in dough" is a simple street snack of India. Sweet, spicy, tangy, sour, salty.. bursting with flavors. Adding of her own channa stuffing, Sita of For Spicy Lovers re-created a wonderful treat loved by all of her family members.
7. Masala Popcorn - Nupur´s all time favorite snack to crunch her way through the evening. Inspired by her addiction has recently been Meera of Enjoy Indian Food, who loves the idea of making her own popcorn as she can spice it up the way she likes.8. Sabudana Thalipeeth - a lovely crispy sago patties - a traditional Mahastrian fasting dish. Looking at the pics taken by Shubha of Chutki Bhar Pyar or Namratha of Finger Licking Food, I would say "feasting dish" instead :-)
9. Vegetable Club Sandwich - who would not love to bite hungrily into a piece of this juicy filling breakfast treat? Dhivya of Dil Se... puts a stop to cereals for a while and indulged herself into this one instead. Oh, I wish I could wake up to this. I think Vandy of Vandy´s Culinary Adventures just heard me. Look at that giant.
10. Ambe Dal - a simple popular spicy Marathi snack, traditionally accompanied with Panha - a mango drink. Nidhi of Charche Chauke Ke has admired this crunchy munch for long and made it as soon as the sun hit Michigan. No picture left, unfortunately...
11. Rainbow Chard - Mushroom Sandwiches - another try from Nidhi of Charche Chauke Ke´s kitchen. This one uses a combo of mushrooms and greens, which both girls find being a terrific combination.
12. Caponata Sandwiches - another fantastic idea of buns stuffed with eggplant mish-mash. Meeta of What´s For Lunch Honey? enjoyed experimenting with ingredients a little. Outcome? Read..."The tiny but very exquisite touch was the addition of raspberry balsamic vinegar and the decadent drizzling of the butter oil towards the end. Both have a fantastic flavor and highlighted the aromas of the vegetables perfectly. Tangy and butterlicious!"
13. Roti John - a simple Singaporean street food- a French toast topped with scrambled eggs and minced meat, spiced up with a chili sauce. TBC of The Budding Cook loved her vegetarian version of this simple crispy snack.
14. Hariyali Tikki - a simple well-flavored healthy patties - a mixture of spiced mashed potatoes and different medley of greens; and, as Maheshwari of Beyond The Usual suggests, perfect with some spicy coriander chutney.
15. Bhadang - forget popcorn, here is something fancy, light, spicy and crunchy to go with your evening movie or a beer with friends. While humble moi here at Zlamushka´s Spicy Kitchen (right) stuck entirely to the recipe, Srilekha of Me And My Kitchen (left) made a few changes to the original, which gives me another excuse to make this one again soon.
16. Veg Frankie - another Bombay street snack, happily re-created by Vandy of Vandy´s Culinary Adventures with a few changes to fit her taste. As a true One Hot Stove fan, this one was just another one of Nupur´s fab recipes.
17. Ragda Patties - a lovely soft and crispy yellow lentil accompanied with pea curry with crunchy sev. Sounds like a delish dinner to me. While Laavanya of Cookery Corner followed the recipe entirely, Aparna of My Diverse Kitchen added a bit more chili to the patties and off you go, spice lovers...
18. Vietnamese Spring Rolls - my absolute favorite Nupur´s recipe. So light, deliscious and healthy. We had these three days in a row :-) Check out my shrimp version here at Zlamushka´s Spicy Kitchen.
19. Dhai Sev Puri - another wonderful Indian street food treat. I actually had this one for the very first time when I was in London two weeks ago. I am happy Alka of Sindhi Rasoi reminded me of this wonderful taste. I will be making this one soon.
* Main Courses*
20. Mapo Doufu - I remember the post when Nupur starting "woking away..." She was so excited about her new wok, that I have recommended her a perfect cookbook for this occasion. Funnily enough, she made the same dish that I love to make from the book. Similar taste-buds coincidence? ;-) Evidence here - at Zlamushka´s Spicy Kitchen...
21. Chavli Amti - a wonderful veggie and bean stew covered with a thick spicy curry sauce. Asha of Aroma Hope made this one for dinner the second I announced One Hot Stove as Blog Of The Month.
22. Achari Baingan - stuffed eggplant curry. Which eggplant lover can pass by without drooling all over his shirt? Stuffed with onion masala, Siri of Siri´s Corner couldn't have resisted to make a few on her own.
23. Undhiyu - a traditional Gujarati medley of regional veggies and patties, spiced up with aiwain seeds. Even though a bit time-consuming, the results are apparently worth it, confirms Suganya of Tasty Palettes, who made this dish several times before, and so does Laavanya of Cookery Corner.
24. Gobi Manchurian - Nupur´s version of my original recipe. Her picture looked so nice and she did make a few changes, so I decided to re-created my re-created recipe here at Zlamushka´s Spicy Kitchen. Both versions are great, yet Nupur´s is a bit less time-consuming.
25. Vegetable Panner Korma - a popular varied veggie curry cooked in a thick spicy gravy, a dish widely popular in Punjab region. A true paneer-lover Radhika of Tickling Palates has made this lovely diverse dish several times and enriched Nupur´s original recipe with a few little things.
26. Usal/Misal - a soupy-like spicy curry with sprouts - a tradition of Maharastrian region. Following the recipe exactly, Arundathi of My Food Blog added a lovely strip of step-by-step pictorial. Very yummy looking, A.
27. Ridge Gourd Subzi - I have never met ridge gourd, but read all about it. Too bad there are none around here in Scandinavia. After reading Manasi of Cook @ Heart´s experience with this one and looking at the curry pic, I am soooo tempted. Help...
28. Goan Egg Curry - boiled eggs simmered in a thick coconutty gravy are simply a feast for any occasion - and definitely the best egg curry Miri of Peppermill ever had in her life. That is quite a statement coming from an Indian cook, eh? I am in...
29. Aloo Posto - a lovely potato dish enriched with a thick stewing sauce. One of the first Bengali dishes Nupur ever made. Siri of Siri´s Corner enriched Nupur´s recipe with a touch of tomato puree and koora podi - a gift from her blogging friend.
* Side Dishes *
30. Laadi Pav - a simple potato bread, a perfect accompaniment for thick curries or naturally, Pav Bhaji. Home-made buns. who would ever resist? I know Dee of Ammalu´s Kitchen has not.
31. Cinnamon Scented Pearl Couscous - a wonderful aromatic Mediterranean flavored couscous, a real feast for eyes. Pooja of My Creative Ideas has been trying to make this one for ages, finally got her chance. Even a lack of pearl couscous and cranberries would not discourage her, and she was happy with her experiment.
32. Egg Pilaf - a wonderful marriage of well-flavored rice and eggs makes this simple dish the queen of the dinner table. Together with raita, lovely Rachel of Tangerine´s Kitchen doesn't need much else.
33. Tofu Pilaf - for a slightly different taste, do not forget to try Nupur´s pilaf with paneer or Tofu as Siri of Siri´s Corner made it. She confessed it was so good that the entire pot was finished within minutes.
34. Tikhat Sanja - A simple upma breakfast dish. I like semolina, it is a traditional staple ingredient in Slovakia, but I have never heard of savory semolina. We deliberately use it in desserts, such as porridge, pudding, ... etc. This style is great. So much flavor hee at Zlamushka´s Spicy Kitchen.
35. Lubia Polo - another fantastic rice recipe, this time in the Upside-down style. Looks fantastic, tastes fantastic. Check out Shyamala of Food, In The Main... if you are in doubts. She seemed to have a lot of fun experimenting with her kitchen utensils :-)
* Relishes *
36. Hiravi Chutney - a simple green chutney perfect as a spread on morning toast or in sandwiches. Jyothsna of Curry Bazaar show casts her Cucumber Tomato creation.37. Cool Spinach Raita - my most favorite Chinese Ayi KC of Kitschow is not a big fan of spicy foods, but is very open and eager to experiment. This time she chose this wonderful cooling relish to her Canadian favorite - gtilled salmon.
38. Peanut Chutney - another powder-like spread commonly eaten on toasts or as seasoning to plain curries, such as Pithale (above) as suggested by Rashmi of Delhi Belle.
39. Lasun Chutney - a wonderful well-flavored garlic coconut chutney, a favorite of Hetal from Isha´s Kitchen, as it reminds her of her own childhood, when this was the only thing she ended up eating when fighting with a few disliked vegetables.
40. Tamarind Relish - originally brought by Cynthia of Tastes Like Home (re-created also in last month´s T&T edition, btw), re-created by Nupur and now, followed up on by Shubha of Chutki Bhar Pyar - a nice trail around the world, eh?
41. Three Dips - Making some spring rolls soon? Nupur suggests Chilli - Garlic Dip (the red one), Orange Marmalade (the orange one) or Cashew Nut Dip (the brown one). At Zlamushka´s Spicy Kitchen, I say, have them all...
42. Dahi Batata - made of potatoes and spiced yoghurt, perfect with any curry or sandwiches; a simple cooling side dish well enjoyed by TBC of The Budding Cook.
* Drinks *
43. Mango Lassi - a classic. A classic that everyone loves. A classic that I always sip on, when eating out. Maya of Million Little Stitches and JZ of Tasty Treats both have indulged herself in a big cup of this re-freshing juicy sweet drink this month.
* Soups *
44. Solkadi - this lovely rich coconut kokum soup sounds like a perfect winter evening sip to me. Advocating the benefits of coconut, Priya of Live To Cook makes a huge bowl of this wonder for her kids, and together with rice, they loved it to the last spoonful.
45. Spicy Cauliflower Soup - a simple, yet flavored veggie soup puréed to perfection. A drizzle of yoghurt on top and here you go a mouthful...aaaah. This is such a hearty and homey one. I truly hope that Medhaa of Cook With Love agrees with me. Madhuram of Eggless Cooking tried this recipe to please her cauliflower-loving husband. Good choice, girl ;-)
* Desserts *
46. Kesar Pista Nankhatai - a traditional Indian snack with pistachios and saffron. Bhagyashri of Taste Buds used Nupur´s recipe to get inspiration for her lovely Saffron-almond cookies.
47. Carrot Cashew Payasam - I made this dish once a long time ago. I remember it took quite some time to make it, but hey, was that the creamiest thing I have ever eaten! Absolutely addictive. I am sure that EC from Simple Indian Food thought the same the second she dug her spoon into Nupur´s payasam.
48. Granola - under deserts? Well, to me this nutritious mix is so addictive that I could easily eat it on any occasion. Granola is something you can experiment with forever and never spoil the taste. I myself have tried at least million versions of this super crunch. Jamie of Flavor Pantry followed the original recipe "word for word, cup for cup, teaspoon for teaspoon"... and was extremely pleased.
49. World Peace Cookies - apparently named by a neighbor of the author who believed that a daily intake of a few will ensure planetary calm, as I learned from Jai and Bee of Jugalbandi, who despite not really liking sweets loved these so much that they promised to make them again.
50. Chocolate Bread - a wonderful soft slice of choco bread enriched with pecans, that is definitely a way to start a day. For a bit of diversity, do it Laavanya of Cookery Corner´s way. More chocolate chips and walnuts instead of pecans. Yummy, eh?
51. Lemon Squares - Lovely Gloria of Canela´s Kitchen Recipes has re-created these refreshing yellow cubes, softly melting in one´s mouth, apparently so good that her kids were fighting for their shares.
52. Gajar Halwa - this was probably my very first Indian dessert I ever made. As it was super delicious I am very happy to see Maya of Million Little Stitches re-creating this wonder and loving the taste of it. Her little re-freshing idea of adding vanilla ice-cream makes me want to make this one again pretty soon.
53. Caramel Custard - re-created by Ranjeetha of Ranji´s Kitchen Corner, who has been craving for a good custard recipe since she had it first time as a college student. Nupur apparently had exactly the perfect match on her blog. Similarly - Divya of Easy Cooking has also been thorugh One Hot Stove´s recipes ..."ek se badhkar ek" (one after another), until she ..."hit the jackpot".
Thank You everyone for participating, I really hope to see you around next month :-)
Nupur, your blog is wonderful and I am very proud to present you this stamp:
